In 2013, we decided to venture more whole heartedly into the field trial venue, so we got a Brittany. Unbeknownst to us this would be the beginning of our quest for a Dual dog, a champion in the show ring as well as the field. Cougar came to us from David and Terry Downing of Blueridge Kennels. She was the pick bitch for David and from day 1 exhibited attitude and charisma. I was lucky enough to be involved with this litter from early on. We spent plenty of time letting her roam the ample acreage and play with her littermates as well as letting her run with Finn. She started going to field trials at the age of 12 weeks and learned out stake outs, horses, birds, and running in big fields and of course she charmed everyone she met. Cougar ran her first field trial in February and put down a lovely run in Amateur Puppy. In the spring, we ventured into the show ring, again this girl's fearless demeanor and look at me attitude won the hearts of those near and far. We ventured to Lake Charles Louisiana for the Cajun Cowboy Cluster, Cougar earned her first points and major of 5 points under Mrs. Polly Smith. We are thankful for Mrs. Smith for acknowledging the potential this young girl has. Cougar followed this win up with another at the River City Cluster in San Antonio, for 2 more points under Mrs. Gloria L Geringer. Cougar also went Best in Sweepstakes at the Alamo Brittany Club at the same cluster under Mrs. Mary B Napper. Many thanks to these judges for these special first wins.
Cougar continued to do well in the show ring finishing in fine style with two 4 point majors in April 2015. Cougar finished the show year out going Select Bitch, for a 4 point major with dogs defeated, from the field trial class at the Alamo Brittany Clubs summer specialty.
Cougar, went to Arkansas for the ABC 2015 National, we entered her in the Field Trial class and she placed second in a lovely class of FT Bitches. We are pleased with how well this girl goes from the field to the ring and back without missing a step.
Cougar has had numerous Field Trial placements in Amateur and Open in both Derby and Puppy.
We have since retired Cougar to the life of the Princess she is and a great hunting partner.
We are thankful to have her in our lives and look forward to many years with her in the field.
